The 40 Year Old Virgin

SD and I saw this movie ... hmm, maybe two or three weeks ago, not really completely sure when

In the run up to seeing it, I had seen some mixed takes on it and some declarations that this could be one of the best comedies in a decade

What should I start with ... okay, I think that the movie is very competent as a romantic comedy. Now normally RCs and over the top comedies aren't marketed in the same way ... so in some ways I think the marketing suggests that this is an OTT comedy, but it really wasn't to me

I suppose the film is loaded up with largely ludicrous situations ... and judging from the audience reax when we went, and it was a pretty full theatre ... again I think either you get it or you didn't, there weren't too many spots where almost everyone laughed ... what was noticeable is that stuff would happen, some would laugh, some other stuff would happen another section would laugh ... I guess what I am saying is that your mileage may vary

As a romantic comedy, I think it works, it does that fairly well using the normal foils like the buddies, the children of the woman being pursued, the extremely eccentric manager at work ... I mean, you've probably seen a movie like this before, and I know I felt I had, so it was like yeah, it's an okay movie ... but in the final analysis, I didn't need to see it ... or I wouldn't see it knowing what I know now

That's about all I have to say

Our rating: C ... one of those $1 movies movies, or a rental. I wouldn't buy it on DVD, but many others will ...such is the nature of movies like this
