Taken A While
Well, it's taken me awhile to write down some impressions of Mraz's new CD ... but let me get out a few tidbits that are Mraz-related ... before I go absentminded
Shy That Way, his duet with Tristan Prettyman will appear on her new CD coming out next week ... and if you go to VH1's website now, you can listen to full length tracks, including STW, which has taken on a new slower arrangement
In other notes, JM has three tracks on a collaboration CD between FiveBucks and XMsatradio, that will be on sale online on next Wednesday, and if I remember correctly at your local, ubiquitous FiveBucks ... anyways, here is the online link for next week
Ok, so finally to the album, MR A-Z, there are two really obvious hits, Wordplay and Geek In the Pink. Life is Wonderful, a favorite here at SL, receives a new arrangement from the versions played live earlier this year, I have to say that less (the stripped acoustic) was better than more (the three different verse arrangements) here.
Bella Luna is a very good track that explores that spanish sounding jazzy territory of classic Sting. A Song For A Friend is very solid track as well. The rest of the tracks I think need to be explored over a few more spins. Overall the CD is not as listener friendly as Waiting ... but as we all know JM live is pretty fantastic, and evolves recorded material into different directions ...
One last note, your Natl Pub Radio via KXPN is carrying a live Mraz show this afternoon at 2PM HST ... that's all for now
(ed. note: Another really great show from Jason and the band ... sound quality and the stream were really good ... I dunno, if they are going to archive it, but we all probably can look for it soon on the internet live music archive)
