Road Trip, Game 9

Games like that yesterday are really tough to swallow for fans ... who knows what it is like for players, probably 8000x worse. Yankees look to bounce back against the Halos today behind the arm of the surprising road dog Al Leiter

Inside, impressions of NYY at LAA (95/162)
---

I always wonder if the fans in SoCal/OC dig these homerish Fox broadcasting nimrods ... compared to the immaculate Vin, also on FSN, sheesh -- You would think that will all the voice talent in town, oh neverfknmind

TOP 1: Lackey pitching for LAA -- Jeter goes down looking, one away -- Cano grounds to second, two down -- Sheffield flies to the track in left center to retire the side

BOT 1: Leiter pitching for NY -- Figgins lines a leadoff single to center -- On the 2-1 to Erstad, Figgins goes late ... Jeter looks surprised by the awkward slide and misses the tage, he is in with a steal -- Runner at second, full count to Erstad, the payoff ... he lines to center, one away ... Figgins is chased back

Vlad grounds to third, the runner holds, two down -- Anderson flies to the track in right center to end the inning

TOP 2: ARod lines the full count payoff to center for a leadoff single -- Matsui grounds to second ... Kennedy gloves ahead of ARod, who is hung up ... Kennedy fakes the rundown, and throws to first?? HUH, one down, runner in at second

On the 1-1 to Giambi, the throw is in the dirt, ARod fakes a go ... Jose Molina throws to check him back AND THROWS IT INTO CF ... Figgins gloves, the race is on ... the throw is perfect to third, ARod slips his left arm by the tag, in at third

Giambi grounds to first, two away, one run scores -- Yankees lead, 1-0

Posada goes down swinging to end the rally

BOT 2: Bengie Molina grounds a leadoff single through to left -- Cabrera flies to center, one down -- Jose Molina grounds a single up the middle past Jeter, runners now first and second

Full count to Izturis, the payoff ... he draws a walk, bases are now loaded -- Kennedy lines a single to right, one run in ... Jose Molina is waved, the throw comes ... he slides under the sweeping tag of Posada, great slide!, two runs in on the hit -- Angels take over the lead, 2-1

Runners at the corners for Figgins, he rips a single up the middle that clips Leiter's glove on the way to center, one run scores -- the score is now LA-A 3-1

Before the first pitch to Erstad, the checkback throw from Leiter is away from Giambi, and gets a bit of his glove ... and trickles away, the runner from third will score, the other runner in to second -- Halos add another, 4-1

Stottlemyre out to confer -- runner at second for Erstad, he flies to left, two away -- Runner still at second for Vlad, he grounds to short to end the rally

Brutal ... and now again during an Angels broadcast, I will go radio silence due to the annoying announcers, pshhh

TOP 3: Bernie goes down swinging, one away -- Crosby grounds the first pitch to second, two down -- Jeter goes down swinging to retire the side

BOT 3: Anderson lines a leadoff single to right -- Bengie Molina draws a walk, runners now first and second -- Cabrera pops to second in shallow right, one down

Graman warms for NY -- Jose Molina grounds a single up the middle into center, they wave Anderson home ... the throw is offline, one run scores -- the Angels now lead, 5-1

Runners first and second for Izturis, he chops to third near the bag, ARod gloves and steps on third for the force, two away -- Kennedy flies the first pitch to left to end the rally

TOP 4: Cano bloops a leadoff single to left center -- Sheffield draws a walk, runners at first and second -- full count to ARod, the payoff ... he goes down looking, and he knew it, one down

Matsui lines a single to left, one run will score -- Halos lead cut to, 5-2

Runners first and second for Giambi, he battles it full then GOES DOWN SWINGING, two away -- the 1-2 pitch to Posada gets away from the catcher, the runners move up to second and third -- Posada grounds to first to end the rally ... and what will be said about this inning is MISSED OPPS

BOT 4: Figgins goes down looking, one away -- Erstad pops foul to the catcher, two down -- Vlad pops foul to right ... Sheffield comes on and makes a great running basket catch to end the inning

TOP 5: Bernie pops to second in shallow right, one down -- Crosby goes down swinging, two away -- full count to Jeter, the payoff ... is low, he draws a two out walk -- Cano just blasts one to the gap in right center, to the track, he's in with a double at least, Jeter will score all the way around from first... Vlad bobbles it out in right, Cano will get to third on the error -- Halos now lead, 5-3

Black in to confer -- full count to Sheffield, runner on third, he grounds the payoff to third to end the two out rally ... AGAIN MISSED OPP to do more with the big bats up, gakk!

BOT 5: Donnelly warms for LAA -- Anderson goes down swinging, one down -- Bengie Molina lines to short, two away -- Cabrera grounds to deep short, it's past ARod, Jeter gloves and that's all, a two out infield single -- Jose Molina grounds to third, ARod is back, has to gun ... the throw is violent, in the dirt, but PICKED by Giambi, great play to end the inning

TOP 6: ARod chops one off the plate, a really HIGH bounce out to third, he legs out a leadoff single -- Matsui ahead 3-0, he is GREENLIGHTED ... and pops it up to center (GAKK!!!), one down -- that will be all for Lackey, Donnelly in to pitch

Giambi goes down swinging, two away -- Posada flies to center to retire the side ... and the Yankees are officially pressing, psshh

BOT 6: Izturis grounds a leadoff single to left -- Proctor warms for NY -- on the 1-2 to Kennedy, Leiter checks back Izturis, he is hung up ... BUT GIAMBI CAN'T GET THE BALL OUT OFF HIS GLOVE, Izturis steals second ... are you kidding me?!?!?!?

Runner on second, Kennedy grounds to second, one down -- Figgins pops to second, two away -- full count to Erstad, he keeps battling in a quality AB ... then serves a two out flare single to center, one run will score -- Halos increase to, 6-3

Vlad pops foul to first to end the two out rally ... like many other instances this season, the Yankee pitching can't close the book on two out innings, this run given the offensive sputtering has probably put the game out of reach today

TOP 7: Donnelly continues -- Bernie flies to center ... Figgins dives in to stab at it, it hits the heel of his glove on a hop, a leadoff single -- Crosby works it full, the payoff ... high, he draws a walk, runners first and second ... and surprise, surprise, Yankees in business AGAIN

Jeter grounds to third, a routine double play ball, the force is made at second ... then Kennedy loses the grip on it trying to throw to first, one down -- Shields now warming for Halos -- runners now at the corners for Cano, he POPS TO FIRST ... GAKK!!!!, two away

That will be all for Donnelly, Shields in to face Sheffield -- Sheffield hits it hard to center ... but just misses it to retire the side ... what more do I need to say today about lack of timely hitting

Seventh Inning Stretch, Angels lead, 6-3

BOT 7: Proctor now pitching for NY -- Anderson hits the full count payoff and flies to center, one down -- Bengie Molina also works a full count, and flies to the track in deep center, two away -- Cabrera flies to center to end the inning

TOP 8: Shields continues -- ARod grounds to third, one down -- Matsui grounds the FIRST PITCH to short, two away -- Giambi blasts one to deep center, over Figgins, for a two out double -- Peralta warms for LAA -- Posada goes down looking to retire the side ... another runner left in scoring position

BOT 8: Proctor continues for NY -- Jose Molina goes down swinging, one down -- Izturis glies to right, two away -- Kennedy grounds the first pitch back to the mound to end the inning

TOP 9: K-Rod in again tonight to close out NY -- Bernie grounds up the middle to short, one down -- Tino in at PH for Crosby, he goes down swinging, the pitch is dropped and he is put out at first, two away -- Jeter works it full, but pops to the dugout along the first baseline ... Erstad reaches, and gloves it to end the game ... why not?

FINAL: Angels win, 6-3

Leiter was shaky early on, as was some defensive execution ... Leiter righted himself after it was 5-1, but the bats for the Yankees never came through with timely hitting all game long, though there were many men on base opportunities

51UP 44DOWN ... two losses in a row
