Road Trip, Game 6

The Yankees pulled out a wild one yesterday ... and are in first place in the AL East for the first time since opening day

TOP 1: Chan Ho Park going for TEX -- Jeter flies to right center, one down -- Cano lines to right, two away -- Sheffield grounds to third to retire the side

BOT 1: Mussina going for NY -- Dellucci lines a leadoff single to right center -- Young goes down looking, one down -- Teixeira draws a walk, runners now first and second -- full count to Blalock, the payoff ... he goes down swinging, two away -- Soriano goes down swinging to end the inning ... Mussina has struck out the side, what is with the Yankee starters and high first inning pitch counts?

TOP 2: ARod grounds a leadoff single through infield and into right -- Matsui goes down swinging, one away -- Giambi lines one to the gap in right center, cut off by Matthews, Jr., Giambi trying for two ... he is easily gunned down, runner to third on the play, two down -- Posada goes down looking to retire the side

TOP 5: Posada is plunked to leadoff the side -- Bernie grounds to second, the lead runner is tagged by Soriano, he spins and throws out Bernie in a close play at first for the double play (replay: safe), two down -- Crosby grounds to short to retire the side

BOT 5: Mench lines a leadoff single to left -- Hidalgo grounds a single through to left, runners at first and second -- full count to Matthews, Jr., the payoff ... he goes down looking, one down -- full count to Barajas, he pops to short in shallow center, two away -- Dellucci flies to the wall in right center to end the inning

TOP 6: Jeter lines one to the right center gap ... Matthews, Jr. runs it down, one away -- full count to Cano, he drives one off the wall in right for a double -- Sheffield grounds an infield single up the middle ... off the glove of Park, stopped by Young, he tries to pick Cano off at third ... safe

Runners at the corners for ARod, he grounds to short into a rally killing 643 double play to retire the side

TOP 7: Felix Rodriguez arms for NY -- Matsui grounds to the left of the mound, play is made by the pitcher, one away -- Giambi draws a walk -- the 1-1 to Posada gets by Barajas to the backstop, the runner advances to second on the wild pitch -- Shouse and Loe warm for TEX -- Posada grounds to second, runner to third on the play, two down -- Bernie goes down swinging to retire the side

Seventh Inning Stretch, no score .... UNBELIEVABLE

BOT 7: Felix Rodriguez back from rehab, now pitching for NY -- Mench pops to short in shallow right, one down -- full count to Hidalgo, he ticks one in front of the plate, Posada fields and puts him out at first, two away

Full count to Matthews, Jr., he battles and eventually draws a two out walk -- on the first pitch to Barajas, Matthews goes .... and steals second -- Barajas battles but flies to center to end the inning

TOP 8: Park continues -- Crosby draws a leadoff walk -- Jeter lays a sacbunt towards the mound, fielded by Park and puts Jeter out at first, runner advances to second on the bunt, one away -- Cano grounds a single up the middle to center, they wave Crosby ... he will score, the throw to second to get Cano ... he is in at second on the throw -- that wil be all for Chan Ho Park

Loe now pitching for TEX -- runner at second for Sheffield, he lines a broken bat flare to third, two down -- ARod goes down swinging to retire the side

BOT 8: Franklin now pitching for Yankees -- Dellucci grounds a leadoff single up the middle and into center -- Young grounds a single to left, runner to second on the hit -- Proctor warms for NY -- Franklin falls behind Teixeira 3-0 ... green light, he grounds to third into a 543 double play, two down ... what the hell was that from the Rangers?!?!?!? Franklin can't throw strikes

Blalock lasers one to right center ... just gone, a two run shot, the Rangers take the lead, 2-1

TOP 9: Cordero in to close for TEX -- Matsui grounds to first, the first baseman flips to the pitcher covering ... it flips on by, Matsui on with a infield single -- Giambi grounds to second, the force is made at second, one down

Womack in to PR for Giambi at first -- Posada flies to left, two away -- Bernie draws a walk, runners now first and second -- Tino in to PH for Crosby, he lines to center to end the game


FINAL: Rangers win, 2-1

This was a big pitching and defense game until the very end -- I guess the story will be for the Yankees, why didn't they go with a more proven reliever in the bottom of the eighth to try and lock down the Rangers ... one can only hope this game will not haunt them down the stretch
