Homestand, Game 3

TOP 1: Unit going for NY -- Sanchez goes down swinging, UDA, one gone (RJ 1) -- Lawton down swinging after the high cheese, UDA again, two down (RJ 2) -- Bay lines a two out single to left -- Doumit shatters his bat fouling a pitch on 0-2, then goes down swinging on the checkswing (RJ 3) to retire the side

BOT 1: Perez pitching for PIT -- Jeter hits a first pitch bomb to the gap in left center, the fielders converge, neither one gets to it, it falls in ... and bounces over the wall for a ground rule double

Matsui absolutely crushes the 0-1 over the right center field fence and into the stands, a 2-run shot, Yankees lead 2-0

Sheffield pops foul to the catcher, one down -- ARod goes down swinging, two away -- Sierra also goes down swinging to end the rally

TOP 2: Restovich goes down swinging, one away (RJ 4) -- Ward pops to second in short right, two down -- Castillo hits a comebacker and is put out to retire the side

BOT 2: Bernie draws a leadoff walk -- Giambi bashes a double to the gap in right center, one run scores, Yankees now 3-0 -- McClendon out to confer

Runner at second for Flaherty, he hits a sharp lineout at third, one down -- Cano flares a single to short right center, another run scores, NY now leads 4-0

Jeter goes down swinging, two away -- runner at first for Matsui, he draws a two out walk, runners at first and second -- Sheffield pops to short to end the rally

TOP 3: Cota grounds to third, one down -- Wilson lays down a perfect surprise bunt to third, Posada fields, an infield single ... great play -- Sanchez is plunked on a free swing after the first offering, he flies out to center, two away -- Lawton pops foul to first to retire the side

BOT 3: ARod grounds to short, one down -- Sierra grounds to third, two away -- Bernie flies to right to end the inning

2:01PM HST

TOP 4: Bay pops foul to first, one down -- Doumit grounds to short, two away -- Restovich crushes one to right, it rolls on the top of the rightfield wall, and falls back into the field ... called a HR, solo shot, Yankees lead cut to 4-1

Ward down swinging to end the rally (RJ 5)

BOT 4: Giambi is plunked with the first pitch, a leadoff plunk -- Flaherty down swinging, one away -- Cano lines an opposite field single to left over the leaping shortstop, runners now first and second

Jeter draws a four pitch walk, bases now loaded, one down -- Williams in to confer, Vogelsong warms for PIT

Matsui pops to short, infield fly rule, two away -- Sheffield fists a bloop to left, Restovich slides in and ... misses it, it bounds into the stands, a ground rule double, two runs score, Yankees now lead 6-1

Runners at second and third for ARod, he will receive an intentional pass, the bases reloaded with two down -- Sierra pops foul to the catcher near home plate to end the rally

TOP 5: Castillo flies to center, one down -- Cota hits a comebacker and is put out, two away -- Wilson goes down on a half pirouette to retire the side (RJ 6)

BOT 5: Bernie flies to right, one away -- full count to Giambi, payoff is ... low, ball four -- Flaherty lines a single to left, runners now at the corners

Cano grounds to second, the second baseman throws to the plate and cuts down the runner, two down -- Jeter goes down swinging to end the inning

TOP 6: Sanchez grounds to short, bobbled by Jeter E6, runner on first -- Lawton down looking, one gone (RJ 7) -- Bay gives it a ride but Sheffield makes a great catch falling back to the rightfield wall, the attempt to double off Sanchez is short and wide, two down -- Doumit down looking to retire the side (RJ 8)

BOT 6: Vogelsong now pitching for PIT -- Matsui grounds to first, one away -- Sheffield flies to left, two down -- ARod lines to left center to end the inning

TOP 7: Restovich down swinging, one gone (RJ 9) -- Ward grounds the first pitch past Giambi and into right for a single -- full count to Castillo, the payoff ... he is down looking, two away (RJ 10) -- Cota grounds to third to retire the side

TOP 8: Crosby at LF, Tino at 1B -- Wilson grounds to second, one away -- Sanchez hits an atom ball at third, two down -- Lawton grounds to first to retire the side

BOT 8: Flaherty grounds a leadoff hit through the right side -- Cano grounds the first pitch to second, into a 463 double play, two gone -- Jeter hits a two out single up the middle and into center -- full count to Matsui, the payoff is grounded to second to end the inning

TOP 9: Johnson out for the CG -- Bay hits another atom ball at third ... and ARod steals another hit away, one down -- Doumit hits the first pitch and flies to right, two away -- Restovich grounds a two out single up the middle and into center -- While Ward battles 0-2, Unit is called for a balk, runner to second -- Unit then gets Ward to go down swinging to end the game

FINAL: Yankees win, 6-1

The Yankees sweep three from the Pirates, two bookend dominant pitching performances (Brown is turning out to be the lemon of the staff at this point), and good offensive production

Yankees and Cubs begin a marquee interleague three game series tomorrow at The Stadium

Pavano and Carlos Zambrano get the start tomorrow
