We do Heroes right

Yes, it is a play on KFC ... you can see the level of my lack of creativity

Well, today was a very restful day in many ways -- not much going on but the Sunday routine -- no nap, but did some this and that around the house

I finally finished off seeing Hellboy from beginning to end

To me, it is a great tragedy that I didn't see this one in the theatres because I enjoyed it a great deal -- I am only remotely familiar with Mike Mignola's Hellboy Dark Horse comic -- I have read a couple of issues of it

I thought that this movie really captured the feel of comics really really well. In fact, I can without reservation put it up next to X2 and Spidey 2 -- and in many ways, I enjoyed it MORE than X2 and S2

I've been waiting to see a movie about superheroes capture that intangible magic of superpowers and the fantastic ... This one nailed it down and sent the viewer on a magnificent ride

It surprises me greatly that I could care so much about characters I knew so little about -- that I could learn so much without LENGTHY statements of who I am, what I am, etc. -- the movie had the exact right mix of action, the fantastic, character idiosyncracies, and driving us home towards the finish line (keeping it moving along)

It gives a hiccup in the last 20 minutes -- it obviously overdramatizes something that as a viewer you go, why and what for? -- earlier in the movie, that plot element seemed to be well defined even if the outcome was ambiguous -- the moment kind of underestimated the audience, and that was the only part that I felt some quibbles about

Other than that, this one really smashed it out of the park -- it's everything you could hope for in a hero movie -- kudos to Guillermo Del Toro and the ensemble cast, well done
