What the hell was the point?

Ok, all weekend I read stories and saw splash pages with hear the new "leaked" Madonna album ... I dunno, she's not that terribly relevant or high on my priorities of informational urge so I let it pass

Well, it turns out Madonna and her publicity leaked fakes to Kazaa and Limewire... which had her saying something like WTF do you think you are doing!!! when you tried to play them

Which to me seems lame and strange, I mean, after the birth pains and gnashing during Napster, Lars, Bizkit, Metallica, Dre and Congress of the recent past --- its a touchy issue, duh ...thanks for noticing Ciccone

It's not funny even if its a prank

It's not funny to "entrap" your fans who really want to listen to your stuff ... and then they get you cursing them out

Oh and by the way RIAA, CDs are too damn expensive ... my oh-so original complaint

Isn't there a better way for you to say: FILESHARING IS NOT COOL ... repeat after me, go hold a press conference and say: FILESHARING IS NOT COOL... in fact, go on MTV like you did for those AIDS commercials

But then it gets stranger still ... so then some of our pals from Phreak-Hakk land go on to her website and hack her back end ...

Andddd ...they go and put REAL TRACKS up on her hacked site ...saying This is what I was up to.....

In other words, WHO PUTS REAL COMPLETE MP3 TRACKS on their back end behind their webpage .... subject to true piracy or is it mere pranking ...ha

Is this poetic justice? ... Should Madonna's web people be fired?

I have a simple answer to it all:

Goddamn you and your peeps were stupid this week Madonna

Good Luck on restarting that career,
Maybe you can play Caesars after Celine Dion is done

Reminds me of that show What's Happening ...where these bootleggers got Rerun over the barrel and he went to a concert and taped it

I think that was a not-too subtle way for the RIAA to get after tapers

To me, if you tape or burn to learn about music, that's indirect marketing

To me, if you tape or burn to sell, sh-- you're a stupid mofo and deserve whatever you get if you're caught ...like those $8 xeroxed lists that float around Sand Island

The quirk here is that CDs are now so expensive that its almost protective of your financial interests to preview at home or Borders or Tower or borrowing your pal's copy

I preview then buy, and yeah that's an honor system

Only the music fans and collectors suffer with retail prices of 18/19.99

And by the way, Madonna you suck for pulling that sh-- on us, the fans who actually STILL buy music... I hope you have plans to live in a house made out of the pressings of your new CD, you irrelevant joke

The record industry is so quick to blame declining record sales on filesharing and piracy. Piracy has been around since the dawn of the first copyrighted music piece. Cept back then you couldnt tape it you just figured out the chords and played it on your own instrument.

If this is the case where filesharing = declining sales then then i want to use this same equation/theory on the increasing rate of DVD sales.

Filesharing = increased DVD sales

sounds ludicrous doesn't it? It's the same exact thing though.

yeah I download music. Yeah I play it on my iPod. Yeah sometimes I don't pay for stuff that I have on there. But let me tell ya... I did a WHOLE LOT MORE PIRATING as a kid with my tape deck than I ever did with a CD player.

Record Industry TAKE NOTE. Make the CD's cheaper not more expensive!!! Anyone notice that everything that we use to play CD's has gotten cheaper except what we play on them??? In fact the prices have GONE UP! 18 bucks for the latest album??? who wants to risk almost 20 bucks for a CD that might be a total bomb?

Can any of you afford that kind of money? If you can, I have a list of CD's you can buy for me and i will make you copies of them. Thanks.

The answer my friends is not less filesharing, but more filesharing and lower CD prices. If all CD's were reasonably priced at around 10 bucks or so, I'd be buying everything on a whim. i do it all the time at Circuit City when they have sales.

The record industry is one of the few that you have to pay BEFORE you know what you've bought.

Downloading is not a crime. Buying a new CD and feeding the greed of the industry is. I support all artists but I also support myself and my dog first and foremost. If you can't let me know what I'm buying before I plunk down my hard earned cash, i guess you've lost a sale.
