Easter Sunday

It's odd but I was wondering today after I got back from the gym, what this Easter thing is all about... yeah, I do know that Christians have religious significance attached to today ... and something about fertility in pagan societies and hares ... and WHY must CompUSA close today ... WHYYYYY!?!?!?!?

So using this handy dandy thing called the Internet I looked into the whats and whys of Easter and will share them with you my 3 readers ... ha

Ok, so the simple one first ...
According to most Christian belief, today is a celebration of the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead three days after being put to death by the Roman martial government on Golgotha hill outside Jerusalem

And the perhaps lesser known fact, is that it happens on the same day as Jewish Passover ... or the day that creeping death killed the firstborns in Egypt during the 400 years of Jewish slavery except for the Jews who listened to the instructions of God and painted their door with blood and were passed over by the angel of death

Now for the bunnies etc.
The symbolism of the bunny of spring seems to come from pagan fertility rituals prior to the advent of Christianity. The rabbit or hare known as the most fertile of the animals became to symbolize the new life and fertility of the vernal season of spring

As far as its links to Easter, it seems that the Easter Bunny is a cultural creation of the Germans around the 1500s ... and the first Easter Bunnies as sweets were actually produced in the 1800s but not as chocolate ... as sugared pastries ... interesting, huh? ... NOTT ... ha

Ok, and it gets to our fine 50 states by the Germans who lived in the Pennsylvania Dutch areas of PA ... their beliefs were that this was the second best kid's day next to being visited by Christ-Kindel (pronounce it out) ... and much like Christmas, if kids were good, there would be a nest of colored eggs for them in the morning ... so children would build their nests (which were like bonnets, then baskets) in hidden areas in their house or on the farm

there you have it --- an Easter primer for you all
