I didn't know I had a THEME SONG

bonscott.jpg01 dig.jpg

(ed. note: R.I.P. Bon Scott and Joe Strummer)

Wayne, your theme song is Back in Black!

What a perfect segue!!! .... to talk about this year's class of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame

(ed.note: at this point, the creative juices stopped because we got a bomb threat, and didn't get back in the building until 3 hours later)

(note2: and yes, I did take another test at Emode.com ... the "What is your theme song" test)

A couple of nights ago I watched the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction that I had on tape from start to FIN

Here's where I borrow some of what I wrote about a month ago as a comment to Matrix's blog, with revisions, I promise ... ha

....I caught the portion where Gwen S. was introducing the Police ... basically their first performance together since 84 ... was anyone else there at the Aloha Stadium for their SECOND to last performance (with Stevie Ray Vaughn and a youthful Bryan Adams opening)

Watching Sting get out in front with Andy and Stew AGAIN was like wow, 1984 all over again... but it felt different, like we know what happened to Sting after that, right? ... yeah, he was in that bad Dracula movie with Jennifer Beals and that's all right? ... no, its like we were so bombed with Sting that its now like Sting (who now performs Police songs like he's singing songs from Mercury Falling) and the other 2 guys

(ed.note (4/14): I've been out-obscured by Small Petot Ninja girl... the Bride is a Frankenstein movie, thanks, now continue Walking on Sunshine)

it made me think that yeah, there are these prominent inductees into the RRHOF which consist of the following:

Elvis, The Beatles, The Stones, The Beach Boys, Led Zeppelin, The Byrds, Black Sabbath, Queen, The Eagles, Stevie Wonder, the Supremes, Marvin Gaye, Prince (or whatever he calls himself nowadays) ... and so forth and so on ...last year, Talking Heads ... in the future, probably U2, Madonna, Metallica, ....

But then, I thought what the hell about Billy Idol? Does anyone give a rip about Kajawhowho anymore? Will anyone care about the Baha Men and know what their song was in 2013? ... what happens to the less consistent?

then I thought what happens to the short burst groups:
What about interesting musical blips like Nirvana, Soundgarden, Guns N Roses, Jimi Hendrix, Mr. SRV, Joan Jett, Public Enemy? Of course you know, Mr. Hendrix is in ... what about these others

and back to this year's class for the RRHOF:
here's my take:

AC/DC: NOPE, but boy do I love their music ... NEW MATERIAL (4/10):

You know after watching it again, besides wanting to wring Steven Tyler's neck for apeing during their performance and f--king up Shook Me ...

There is a nostalgic part of me that says YEAH ... after watching their performance, it reminded me of how good this band really is ... how their music is one thing ... seeing them perform is ANOTHER ... another REALLY good thing

I saw them live in 91 or was it 92? at the Long Beach arena ... same intensity, same good ol fashioned hard rock ... I'm sorry Ac/Dc ... I was wrong a month ago ... take your rightful spot in the Hall

The Clash: HELL YEAH ... and HELL YEAH it is and will be forever more

Elvis Costello And The Attractions:
GEESH, BRING ON THE FILLER (NO) .... New Material (4/10): You know, here is another band that I guess I buzzkilled for myself ... I remember when Punch the Clock was the hot new wave album ... and I first introduced myself to EC and the As with their Greatest Hits album

I guess listening to their stuff again for the first time in maybe 10 years, made me realize how neat and compact and straightforward and well thought out EC's music is ... and lately my favorite song is "Psycho" ... go download it, see what I mean ... its just some really good music that really hits on why I think this induction is correct ... New Wave deities, welcome to the ROAR

The Police: Yes, I think ... New Material (4/10): Okay, here's another band that I have some trouble getting my mind around ... Synchronicity, their very last effort was the album that broke them HUGE ... yes, Zenyatta Mondatta and Ghost in the Machine had their moments to show them shining and sold well

I think I'm still bitter at them for breaking up ... at some point when I was 13 (before I was METALLL... mwahahahaha), I had really latched into their sound and thought wow, these guys are the greatest band on earth .... and seeing them LIVE reaffirmed that for me ... they just were not bound to ONE STYLE of music, and that still is a very cool characteristic I dig in creative bands

Again, being the jealous fan that I am, I was pist when Gwen S. and Steven came on stage to ape with the Police during their first performance in almost 20 years ... it was upsetting to me, that these goofballs would farq up the performance ... part of me knows nothing is forever, I mean, the Eagles and Kiss reunited ... but maybe the Police is in the Roth-Van Halen mold where it may never happen ... I think that's why I just wanted them to play alone

The Righteous Brothers:
Beyond the Top Gun song, what else did they sing ... maybe an age thing with me ... but they get the NO too

There's an alpha list on yahoo! of who's in the RRHOF if you search it, and I can't really grumble about most of them

In order to get in, I think the minimum requirement is that 25 years have passed since your inception as a viable artist ... also the very soft "influence and significance of the artist’s contributions to the development and perpetuation of rock and roll. "

So what was my point ... there's a lot of music out there ... listen to the music you like, whether it be Men at Work or GG Allin, it's all good, really

Probable Inductees in near term

2004:
Van Halen
Journey
Styx
KISS
Prince

2005: U2, Ozzy Osbourne (solo)
2007: Madonna
2008: Metallica

2024: Marshall Mathers, YEAH RIGHT

Postscript:
What is a BACK IN BLACK person like anyways?
(ed.note: this is very bittersweet and ironic for me, for it would be the death of Bon Scott that would heavily color and influence the writing of this song)

Back in Black

You're a hard-core guy who knows what he wants and intends to get it. That's why your theme song is "Back in Black." Whether you're pumping iron, shooting pick-up hoops, or rounding up the boys for a night of havoc, AC/DC's metal classic is the perfect tune to get you fired up and blow your speakers out in the process. Your friends might think you're a little reckless sometimes, but you know where the limit is. If you're the loudest one in the room, or spill someone's drink with a fearless air guitar, it's nothing to be ashamed of. What's fun without a little mayhem thrown into the mix? So grab something leather, play drums on your desk, and yell at the moon. You've got some hell to raise and head banging to do. Let "Back in Black" accompany you to the edge and back.
