Cute She Devil's Corner

... I want to learn how to fold origami cranes, do you know how?

(Little did I know, bronchitis makes one unable to TYPE as well ... sheesh)

Well, SheDev has bronchitis and is feeling better but still sounds like Demi Moore. That was the question she asked me when I called her this afternoon on my drive home from work to see how she was feeling

Needless to say, when you are driving in traffic, the last thing you expect to be asked is "do you know how to make origami cranes?"

Basically, if you knew anything about me, ... I'm one of the last people who you would ask for origami tips ... with all due respect, better you ask someone with no hands or who is blind for origami tips ... seriously

So as I sit here tapping away at the keys, I see that she has done about three ... she's stuck on how to fold two more ... she told me to go and search for the How-To site she was on ... so I go on YAHOO!, she tells me no, I found it on the msn.com search engine

Now, I don't know about you, but who uses the msn.com search engine??? ... I cannot think of a more useless hierarchical oracle ... the funny thing is recently in my work and personal life I happen to know three people who use this search engine religiously ... its like dyslexia, you really cant tell litnu uoy wonk enoemos ohw sah ti ... my point is, I thought most reasonable Internet users use YAHOO! if you want to get a search done

Ok, so back to the cranes, so SheDev told me a story about her friend in elementary school who knew how ... Japanese girl ... you know, you would think that here in Hawaii you could have a Chinese Hawaiian friend who could teach you how to fold origami animals ... but the story is always about japanese friends who teach you how

Therefore, logically, I can see why my girlfriend may have mistakenly thought that I knew how to fold origami

Okay, so let's have a lesson about why people fold cranes, shall we ... I think that most people now associate it with Japanese American weddings and that the bride (optional: and her bridesmaids) fold cranes for good luck

The term is SENBAZURU which literally translates to 1000 cranes ... well, if you know some Japanese peeps, you know they are hella superstititious about everything ... everything you do may have some repercussions of BACHI (sort of like a Japanese curse. sorta) ... oh cut my nails after sunset today ... and someone on the side goes: BACHIIII in an ominous tone ... and by the way the scenario I just talked about does not cause BACHI ... i think ... well, where's the salt????

Seriously though, I think that Japanese people in Japan have been making cranes for good luck, illness, and for peace/safety in a time of war ... but basically to ward off bad luck ... so it makes me wonder (in the tradition of Stairway to Heaven) ... why would you do it for marriage, isn't love supposed to be lucky???? ... ok, I admit it, we Japanese are an odd neurotic bunch

Well, we've found the site again USING MSN ... I almost feel like showering again, I feel so dirty using that search engine, I know some of you can relate

And in this time of war, fold a few cranes as a wish for peace ... hell, if you fold them for love, why not do them for war too ... do you think we'd have international chaos if world leaders would occupy themselves with poorly illustrated schematics of the tricky STEP 13 where you flip, turn over and repeat 11 and 12 and then do the opposite side .... HUH?!?!?!?!?!!?

I just asked her to make a yak, ooh can't wait!
