I'm not a doctor, but I play one on TV
I'm not the president, but I play one on TV ... Martin Sheen and other famous celebs basically use their status in our society to state their positions on politics, the war, vegetarianism, and what have you
It reminds me of when the guy from Marcus Welby used to plug for a major painkiller by using those now-famous words... I'm not a doctor, I just play one on TV
Well ... would you like an actor to do a critical heart surgery on you? ... or perhaps you want "Red Cap" Fred to tell you what to think, go look at their website today and see what I mean
It is simply ironic because the drummer from one of my favorite bands had this to say about this issue that has been bugging me for quite awhile --- whether it is intellectually dishonest to just form opinions based on what "cool, celebre people say or do"
"We've always just tried to; And this is not, like, p---ying out or not taking a stand ; I've just always had this weird thing about, like; Just because you are a musician, and just because people listen to what you are saying, that doesn't mean that you should mouth off on every single subject that anybody asks you. That's not to take the easy way out, middle stand. But I've got a lot of respect for people like Tom Morello (of Audioslave and formerly of RATM) and Serj (of System of a Down) and all these guys that stand up and really speak passionately. I guess I have trouble with myself using Metallica as some kind of soapbox to stand up and talk about what I feel ; it's always been awkward for me, so I'd rather not go there. Read the papers, go on the Internet, do what you've gotta do, formulate your own opinions, don't listen to some f---in' drummer in a rock band about what to think about the war, you know what I mean?!
Is it for blood, oil, freedom, preserving world peace ...?
Should you eat meat at all?
What pain reliever should I use?
Are Martin Sheen, Zack DeLa Rocha, Fred Durst, or Sean Penn even REMOTELY credible??? ... or for that matter George Bush, Saddam Hussein, Osama bin-Laden??? ... or even any media talking head like Bill O'Reilly, Michael Savage, or Hawaiian Media God Joe Moore???
